Hello again! Remind us who you are and what business you started.

Hello again, this is Chris D. and Oliver C, with Bighead Custom. Bighead Custom creates custom wooden “BLING” pendants and chains that are created from a customer or corporate logos. The finished product is unlike anything else available today. We can reproduce any photo or logo using a colored metal flake and finish the piece off with a smooth sheet of glass.

We give customers the “BLING” without the “heavy price tag sting” as we like to say! Our “TURNOVER CHAINS” have become our #1 seller and have made their way into corporate America. If you're unfamiliar with the concept of the turnover chain, they were born right after the Miami Hurricanes first debuted this style chain back in 2017. We launched a second website dedicated strictly to this style chain, TurnoverChains.

Tell us about what you’ve been up to! Has the business been growing?

The last time we spoke was right before COVID hit. Two months into the pandemic we started to see things slow down gradually. As soon as the first stimulus checks arrived Bighead started rocking again and people were home shopping online more often than ever before. And lucky for us, some of them found BigheadCustom.com.

Bighead has always found a way to grow organically. Word of mouth has always been our best friend. We don't like to take all the credit for Bighead’s success but we have certainly worked hard and dedicated ourselves to keeping the product quality and customer service at an all-time high!

In the last 2 years, we have turned a lot of concentration to our newer website, Turnoverchains.com. This division of Bighead has become super popular for us and has completely taken off over the past 2 years. We’re also concentrating on our new line of metal custom jewelry that we are planning to launch in the summer of 2021. Our metal line fills a real void for us. Unlike our much larger wooden pendants, our metal pieces are much smaller and something that everyone can wear daily. This line of metal pendants is also a quarter of the price of our wooden pieces. It gives the customers that can’t afford our wooden pieces a chance to wear our art in a much smaller and less expensive version.

What have been your biggest lessons learned in the last year?

The number one mistake that I've seen entrepreneurs make time and time again when first starting off is letting others tell you that what you’re trying to accomplish is just a bad idea. It’s up to you to really believe in your idea. Stay focused and keep your eye on the prize. Not all ideas will become successful. That’s just a fact. But until they fail, they aren’t a failure. Always trust your judgment and don’t let obstacles (and trust me there will be a few) keep you from moving forward and building your dream into a reality. Keep that internal fire burning!

Follow-through is something that is also extremely important. So many great ideas are left on the table because of the lack of follow-through. Talk is cheap!

If you’re selling a product obviously photos are extremely important. Adding photos and text content to your website regularly is extremely vital. Google rankings LOVE THIS so make sure it becomes a routine task for your new business.

Influencers can also help jumpstart your business when first starting out. We have found that going after A-list celebrities is extremely difficult, but not impossible (persistence pays off sometimes) You’ll have a much better chance at going after a lesser-known influencer. Make sure the influencer you’re chasing is active in your niche at least. Giving them the free product is a good way to attract their attention. It’s worked for us time and time again.

What’s in the plans for the upcoming year, and the next 5 years?

Bighead loves listening to our customer base. We realize that they have their finger on the pulse to what they want and to what's trending. Sometimes a customer’s idea turns into a new product, Bighead.

Trust your judgment and your ideas and keep the negative voices from the outsiders completely silent.

We don't consider any customer’s idea a bad idea, in fact, we encourage them. So we must keep reinventing ourselves and continue to come up with new ways to satisfy their needs. For example, our turnover chains division was inspired by our customer base and now just so happens to be the biggest, most successful part of our business. Thanks to our loyal customer base, turnoverchains.com was born!

Advice for other entrepreneurs who might be struggling to grow their business?

The number one mistake that I've seen entrepreneurs make time and time again when first starting off is listening and taking advice from all the naysayers. Your idea for a new business is always a good one until you believe it is not a good one anymore. Trust your judgment and your ideas and keep the negative voices from the outsiders completely silent. At all costs keep your internal fire burning.

Follow-through is also extremely important. If you're going to talk the talk make sure you walk the walk. Talk is cheap. If you sell a custom item like we do, adding photos and content to your website is extremely vital. Give away

Influencers can also help jumpstart your business when you're first starting. We find that going after A-list celebrities is extremely difficult. You’ll have a much better chance at going after lesser-known influencers but is more active in your niche. They can give you just the right amount of exposure that you need to your target audience to jump-start your new business.
